A Moroccan bath room is a warm, steamed wet room with a scrub bench, built to survive daily commercial abuse. Black soap, kessa glove treatments and ghassoul clay are hard on surfaces, and the finish specification matters more here than in almost any other wet room we build.

What the build involves

Tadelakt, and its honest limitations

Traditional tadelakt — lime plaster polished and sealed with olive soap — is beautiful and genuinely waterproof when correctly applied. It is also labour-intensive, requires a skilled applicator, and needs re-soaping periodically. In a high-throughput salon we often specify a micro-cement system instead, which gives a similar seamless look with considerably better resistance to daily scrubbing. We will price both.

The scrub bench

The bench takes the real load. It needs to be at working height for the therapist rather than lounging height, wide enough for a client to lie on comfortably, and built solid enough that it does not move under scrubbing pressure. Heated benches are an option and are appreciated, but they are not the defining element the way a hammam göbektaşı is.

Drainage for high water volume

A Moroccan bath room uses far more free water than a steam room — bucket rinses go straight to the floor. That means a linear gutter rather than a point drain, a steeper fall than a normal wet room, and a hair trap that can actually be cleaned by salon staff between clients rather than requiring a plumber.

Steam and ventilation

Steam is introduced to warm the room and open pores, but the room runs cooler and less saturated than a steam room, typically 38 to 42°C. It also needs to clear quickly between clients, so extract is sized for turnover rather than for comfort — a commercial room that stays foggy for twenty minutes after a treatment costs the salon a booking slot.

Tadelakt versus micro-cement is the decision that moves the price most, and it is worth thinking about honestly. Tadelakt is the authentic finish and looks it. Micro-cement costs roughly 25% less, applies faster, and holds up better under six treatments a day. For a villa we usually recommend tadelakt; for a busy salon, micro-cement.

Do you offer Moroccan bath treatments?

No — we build the rooms. We are a construction and fit-out contractor. If you run a salon or spa, or you are building a villa wellness area, we construct the room, the bench, the drainage and the steam supply.

How much does a Moroccan bath room cost to build in Dubai?

A villa room runs AED 55,000 to 90,000. A salon treatment room in micro-cement is AED 75,000 to 115,000, and in traditional tadelakt AED 95,000 to 140,000.

Is tadelakt actually waterproof?

Yes, when applied correctly by a skilled applicator and sealed with olive soap. The qualification matters — badly applied tadelakt is not waterproof, and it fails in a way that is expensive to correct. We always tank the substrate underneath regardless, so the finish is not the only line of defence.

How long does a Moroccan bath room take to build?

Ten to sixteen weeks, longer for traditional tadelakt because application and curing cannot be rushed.

What maintenance does the finish need?

Tadelakt needs re-soaping roughly annually in commercial use. Micro-cement needs its sealer refreshed every eighteen months to two years. Both are straightforward jobs; neither should be skipped.

Can you convert an existing salon room?

Often yes, provided there is drainage capacity and the structure can take the bench. The usual constraint is the existing drain — a room designed for a shower rarely handles bucket-rinse volumes without an upgrade.
